The National Weather Service in Sacramento has issued an extreme heat watch, to be in effect from Friday morning, May 30 through Saturday evening, May 31.
Affected areas are the Sacramento and Northern San Joaquin Valleys, Foothills, Northern Coastal Range Mountains, and Shasta Lake Area/Northern Shasta County, Carquinez Strait and the Delta.
Dangerously hot conditions with temperatures ranging from 99 to 109 degrees are possible Friday and Saturday, with a widespread major heat risk. There will be only limited overnight relief with low temperatures in the mid-60s to mid-70s.
Heat related illnesses increase significantly during extreme heat events, particularly for those working or participating in outdoor activities.
As a reminder, area waterways continue to run cold and fast, creating dangerous conditions for those seeking relief in rivers and lakes.
Residents are advised to drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors.
Do not leave young children or pets in unattended vehicles. Car interiors will reach lethal temperatures in a matter of minutes.
